We asked what you thought of the saving of 400 teachers' jobs.
I am very pleased that teacher positions will not be eliminated. Our children are our number one priority. Cutting teachers and increasing classroom size would have been devestating for our children. Our government needs to keep this in mind and take education seriously. - Patty, La Jolla
I am disgusted that Arnold has attacked, abused and raped our educational system and more surprised we have let him. I am a substitute teacher that feels as if my dream of becoming a teacher has been ripped out of my arms. I think it is time to send him back to lala land. - Jose
Well as a parent with 2 children in the San Diego School District I'm very pleased. Four of our teachers were given Pink slips and none of them would be easily replaced. The slogan is not "our un-educated children are our future." We can't expect good things in the future if we take away one of the main things that prepare them for the future. - Christina, Kearny Mesa
You interviewed 1 of the 400 lucky employees who retained her job. What about hearing from one of the 1200 who is wondering how they will feed their families after being laid off? - Rachel, San Diego
I believe that the cut backs on our education were not only offensive to our own teachers, but also to the entire student body from across the state. I am personally thankful that the fellow professors were given their jobs back because they are truly the ones who help the society through thick and thin with their knowledge. Without them, how could the governor even learn how to read? - Rox, Chula Vista
As a teacher, I am very excited to hear that my job has been restored. However, I think it is important to remember the 206 probationary teachers who still have no idea what will happen to their jobs next year. These are the teachers who love and are enthusiastic about their jobs, and yet they are the ones who may be forced to leave the profession in order to make a living. Our district needs to find a way to make cuts in other areas to save all teachers and prove that they really have the students best interest in mind. - Amanda, San Carlos
Fortunately, the Governor's May revision is fulfilling his commitment to education by funding the Proposition 98 Minimum Guarantee. This is good news for school districts throughout California. While this will allow some districts the potential to rescind Pink Slips and return teachers to the classroom, it does not preclude cuts from being made to education. Districts need to be diligent in their budget planning and developing reserves to be able to weather the ups and downs of the State's economy. Let's hope the Legislature shares the Governor's commitment to education and keeps the proposed funding intact. - Susan, Valley Center
I am glad that teachers aren't at risk of losing their jobs anymore. Teachers are a vital role of society that should be respected. - Michael, Chula Vista
